Real Kids Real Food Age 3-6 Club 2021 Counselor

I’m interested in how nutrition and lifestyle affect people’s health. I am also interested in different noncommunicable diseases. I previously worked with children of various age groups as a teacher’s assistant at my old Chinese School in Newton and also worked as a researcher’s assistant at BU. During my free time, I like to prepare food.   I’m looking forward to being the counselor for the Real Kids Real Food 3 -6 year old Club.

Testimonial:

Spring semester 2021, I worked with Betsy as one of her interns. I was a counselor for the Real Kids Real Foods (RKRF) Program for the 3-6-year-olds. I attended several weekly Eat to Thrive (ETT) classes. I also helped Betsy with basic administrative tasks for RKRF and ETT every week.

As a counselor for the 3-6-year-olds in RKRF, I had the opportunity to teach them the basics of health and nutrition, and it was fun to interact with the children. Before this experience as a counselor in RKRF, I had some experience teaching children who were 7-11. This ten-week program was rewarding because I learned various skills. I learned how to plan lessons with my co-counselor(s) and make the classes more interactive for the 3-6-year-olds. I learned how to efficiently convey basic concepts of real food and fiber to children and became more confident in public speaking. This experience as a counselor helped me immensely grow as a public speaker and as a student.

In addition to being a counselor in RKRF, I had the opportunity to attend Eat to Thrive and occasionally help Betsy create the ETT agendas on Constant Contact. Through Eat to Thrive, I learned more about raw, vegan food during the classes each week. I loved to interact with Betsy’s students in the class and understand their perspectives on health, diets, and mindfulness. It was interesting to see other people’s perspectives and reflect on my everyday diet and life. I learned that I could take a more active role in my health and tried to be more active every day by running and stretching. Furthermore, I occasionally helped Betsy with creating the weekly lesson plan on Constant Contact Newsletter program. I learned how to use Constant Contact, which will help me in the future if I pursue marketing.

This internship gave me a valuable experience. It allowed me to be creative, be a leader, and most importantly be more independent and confident. In the beginning, I struggled with finishing tasks by myself independently and confidently. I learned how to think independently and take charge of certain situations. I also learned to communicate professionally, which is crucial in a professional setting. I am glad that Betsy allowed me to grow, and I am also very grateful to work with Betsy. Betsy is very flexible and kind, and she is passionate about nutrition and chronic diseases! I recommend this internship to anyone who wants to build their leadership skills and have a healthier lifestyle!
