Real Kids Real Food ages 3-6 Club 2021 Counselor

I am currently enrolled in a 4+1 program through my university for a Master of Public Health (MPH) and have really enjoyed taking public health classes along with my undergraduate curriculum. In my free time, I like to read, watch movies, prepare food, and learn new languages. I have experience teaching English at ESL workshops in Mexico and Korea, and I am interested in working in health education after I graduate. I love learning about nutrition and incorporating new recipes and tips into my own diet, so I’m really excited to be a part of this program and can’t wait to be a counselor for the Real Kids Real Food 3-6 year old Club!

Testimonial:

I had the immense pleasure of working with an awesome team at Real Kids Real Food (RKRF) and Eat to Thrive (ETT) during the winter of 2021. Throughout this experience, I learned a number of valuable skills while lesson planning, writing newsletters, bookkeeping, and much more! This internship also allowed me to work a lot on my interpersonal skills while maintaining relationships with both the ETT students and the parents of RKRF participants – it was definitely a healthy challenge and I stepped out of the internship feeling more confident and capable in my networking abilities. The hands-on experience I gained has helped prepare me for pursuing a master’s degree in public health (MPH), and I have a better sense now of what I want to do career-wise.

Being an RKRF counselor for both the 3-6 and 7-12 age groups was such a rewarding experience, in particular. I loved meeting with the RKRF kids – they really enjoyed all the recipes, exercises, mindfulness moments, and exciting new topics we introduced every week! Being part of the Eat to Thrive program was great as well; I learned a lot about plant-based nutrition and the guest speakers were very well-versed in their areas of expertise. As someone who is passionate about nutrition education, I cannot emphasize enough the incredible value of the RKRF and ETT programs, and I’m so glad I was involved in both of them.

Our supervisor, Betsy, was an absolute gem to work for. As many of the other previous interns have stated, she is incredibly passionate about what she does, which made our tasks feel even more meaningful and less like work. She likes to joke often about being a visionary with big dreams; she definitely kept us on our toes with her constant stream of new ideas, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. If you’re looking for an opportunity to grow professionally and practice being an all-rounder in the workforce, I would highly recommend this internship! It’s been a blast and I can’t wait to see the Real Kids Real Food and Eat to Thrive programs grow even more in the coming years.
